Willem de Fesch werd geboren in Alkmaar op 26 augustus 1687 en overleed te Londen op 3 januari 1761. Voorliggende uitgave is gebaseerd op de in 1733 bij Witvogel te Amsterdam verschenen druk. Blijkens de titelpagina zijn deze Triosonates bestemd voor: Due Flauti à Traverso o Due Violini, Violoncello o Basso Continuo (Twee dwarsfluiten of twee violen en violoncello of basso continuo). Dat wil zeggen dat De Fesch voor de twee bovenstemmen dacht aan hetzij 2 fluiten, hetzij twee violen. De baspartij kan dus zowel door een enkele cello, dan wel door continuo (orgel of clavecimbel), al dan niet versterkt met een aanvullend basinstrument (cello, fagot etc).

The present edition is based on the printed copy published in 1733 by Witvogel in Amsterdam . According to the title page these Trio Sonatas are meant for: Due Flauti à Traverso o Due Violini, Violoncello o Basso Continuo (Two German flutes or two violins, violoncello or basso continuo). This means that De Fesch was thinking of either two flutes or two violins for the upper parts. The bass part may be played on a single violoncello, or by ‘continuo' (organ or harpsichord), whether or not reinforced by a supplementary bass instrument (cello, bassoon etc.). |
